Hard-to-Staff Math

Employee must teach secondary math.  Secondary math is defined as 6th grade or higher in a K-8 school, middle school, high school or alternative school.

Employee must be teaching at least one section of a Math course with a CDE or alt code of 1100.
Employee must have earned a Bachelor's degree or higher and have a current CDE license or authorization (see list below). Employee must also be highly qualified:

  • Earned a Bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics subject area OR
  • Obtained a valid NBCT certificate in Math OR
  • Have a license endorsement in secondary Mathematics OR
  • Have 24 or more credit hours in secondary Mathematics and be NCLB or NCA qualified OR
  • Have one of the following content assessment codes:
    -PLACE TEST - Math
    -PRAXIS Test - Math
  • Approved CDE licenses and authorizations include:
    1. A1 - Auth Adjunct Teacher
    2. A6TN - Type VI Auth, Temp Teacher
    3. A7 - Authorization: Teacher in Residence
    4. AITN - Authorization: Interim Teacher
    5. ATL - Alternative Teacher License
    6. ATLW - Alternative Teacher License Waiver
    7. INTL - Initial Teacher License
    8. LIFE - Life License
    9. PFTL - Professional Teacher License
    10. PFTM - Professional Teacher Lic-Master
    11. PVTL - Provisional Teacher License
    12. TIR - Teacher in Residence
    13. TFA - Teach for America
    14. DTF - Denver Teaching Fellows
  • 15. ATLWD - District issued license replacing DTF and TFA.

Additionally, a Middle School Generalist Qualification Teacher teaches 6th - 8th grade students in three or more core subject areas (one of which must be math) and meets any one of the following qualifications:
• Elementary HOUSSE Qualified
• PLACE Test Elementary
• PRAXIS Test - Elementary
• NBCT Certificate in Elementary
• Passed an approved out-of-state test qualifying a teacher in elementary education

Another alternative is for teachers that specifically teach only 6th grade (including 6th grade math). The employee must have a Bachelor's degree or higher and have a current CDE license or authorization (see list below). Additionally, they must have one of the following qualifications:
• Elementary HOUSSE Qualified
• PLACE Test Elementary
• PRAXIS Test - Elementary
• NBCT Certificate in Elementary
• Passed an approved out-of-state test qualifying a teacher in elementary education
