How to Receive Payment
General Rules: Payment Eligibility
Teachers must be in ProComp and on active or paid leave status at the time of payment. If a teacher is not in one of these statuses, payment will be delayed until the Teacher returns to one of these statuses. PDUs that are not paid during the contract year are "banked". Banked PDUs do not expire unless a teacher permanently leaves the district. If a teacher is non-renewed, the bank is discarded 90 days after the contract year ends. For voluntary separations and those non-renewed for cause, banked PDUs will be discarded immediately.
If a teacher does not complete a PDU in the required time period, the PDU will be considered "discontinued". Discontinued PDUs are not eligible for payment.
2008-'09 Payment Rules: The 2008/2009 contract year was a "grace" year allowing teachers with more than 14 years of Service Credit to add base building. More...
2009-'10 Payment Rules: Beginning in the 2009/2010 contract year, teachers can only earn base building incentives if they have fourteen or fewer years of service credit. After fourteen years of service, any payout for PDUs will be made as a bonus payment.
- For a teacher that has 14 years of service or less in the 2009/2010 contract year or later, the PDUs that are earned will be paid out as salary building in the current contract year, or will be banked as salary building for future years until such time as the teacher reaches greater than 14 years of service at the time of payout. After 14 years, any previously banked PDUs will be paid out as a bonus payment.
- For a teacher who has more than 14 years of service in the 2009/2010 contract year or later, all PDUs that are earned will be paid out as a non base-building (bonus) payment.
Payment Process
In order to be paid for completing a PDU:
- The teacher must register online for the PDU.
- The Teacher provides completed work to be reviewed and approved by either the instructor (in the case of a pre-approved PDU) or by PDU peer reviewers (in the case of a self-directed PDU).
a. Provide the PDU Identification Number
b. Complete the approved PDU plan
c. Complete the Self Reflection Essay: A summary of the PDU process and outcomes, answering six specific questions that are included in the final PDU work sample of artifacts.
d. Participate in the scheduled final review session
Participants and PDU instructors register online for a final PDU review session or respond to a reminder message via email. The ProComp PDU team creates a calendar for the dates, times, and locations for the final review session. - Completed PDU forms (proposals, final work samples, instructors' final report of completion, request for credit, UCD registration forms and checks) are submitted to Shirley Scott via email, fax, school mail or handed in during scheduled appointments, workshops or final review sessions.
- ProComp Administrator processes all PDUs and submits a report of the names to payroll
Effective Date of Payment
Only one PDU can be paid out per year whether it is salary building or a bonus payment. Payouts are based on the FTE at time of payout. Employees can visit the Employee Self Service Portal (formerly SEA) to review their performance pay history.
Employees with no banked PDUs who submit completed documentation by the 1st of the month will receive payout in the next available payroll cycle. If all documentation is completed and finalized after the monthly payroll deadline, payout will begin the following month.
Banked PDUs are paid out in the order received and generally in the first month of the contract year. If a teacher is rehired, still has a PDU bank, and has not been paid in year for a PDU, the effective date of the payment is the first day of the first complete month of service. Banked PDUs are "discontinued" when a teacher retires and permanently leaves the bargaining unit.
All non-salary building PDU payments (bonuses) are paid as lump sums. Salary building PDUs are part of salary, so the incentive is paid monthly.
Payment for PDUs from 2005-'06, 2006-'07 and 2007-'08: The final cutoff date for submitting information is past. You can no longer be paid for PDUs earned in these years.
